An outdoor family photoshoot in Leicester
This lovely family of three joined me for an outdoor family photoshoot in Leicester, bringing along their gorgeous little one, Otto. 🤍 We chose a beautiful open area with plenty of space for him to explore, play and simply enjoy being outdoors.
It was such a lovely session and the perfect example of why I love keeping family photography relaxed and natural. Rather than asking Otto to sit still and smile for the camera, we let him lead the way, capturing all the little moments of curiosity, laughter and connection along the way.
There was plenty of space for the three of them to walk, play and spend time together, which gave us a lovely variety of photographs without anything feeling too posed or staged. Some of my favourite family photographs are the ones where you can see genuine connection between parents and their little ones, and this session had plenty of those moments.
As a family photographer covering Leicester, Rutland and the surrounding areas, I offer relaxed outdoor family photoshoots in beautiful countryside and open locations, creating natural photographs that capture your family exactly as you are at this stage of life.
“We had such a wonderful experience on our shoot with Jess! She was incredibly kind, friendly with our toddler, which made the whole session relaxed and fun. She was so easy to get along with and made us feel comfortable right away. Jess is a pleasure to be around and the photos turned out beautiful. We couldn’t be happier. Highly recommend!!”

Forget the stiff poses… let’s have some fun!
My approach to family photography is all about capturing your family exactly as you are, for eg. the laughs, the cuddles, the chaos and all those little moments that make your family yours. I’m not looking for everyone to stand perfectly still and smile at the camera; I want your photographs to feel natural, full of personality and, most importantly, like you.
My family photoshoots take place outdoors in beautiful locations in and around Rutland, giving everyone plenty of space to explore, play and simply enjoy being together. Whether that means running through a field, throwing leaves, having a cuddle, playing with the kids or letting them do their own thing for a while, I’ll gently guide you throughout the session while allowing the moments to naturally unfold.
I’ll always have a loose plan in my head, but I’m a big believer that the best photographs often happen when we stop trying to make them happen. I’ll give you plenty of prompts and little things to do together rather than asking you to constantly pose, so even if you’re someone who feels awkward in front of the camera, you’ll never be left wondering what you’re supposed to do!
Children don’t always want to sit still and smile, and that’s absolutely fine. In fact, I’d much rather embrace their energy and capture their real personalities than spend the whole session trying to get the “perfect” photograph. Sometimes the photographs you didn’t plan for end up being the ones you love the most.
My aim as a Rutland family photographer is to create a relaxed and fun experience where you can forget about the camera and simply spend some quality time together. Whether you’re looking for family photographs with little ones, a session with older children, or simply want to document this stage of your family life, we’ll create a gallery full of genuine connection and memories for you to look back on.
So come prepared to run, play, laugh and get a little bit messy, I’ll take care of the photographs.

Mostly family photoshoots take place on location. If its not Rutland Water its a nice open space either in a country park or the woods.

British weather can be unpredictable! If the weather is genuinely unsuitable, we can simply rearrange your session for another date. A little wind, cloud or drizzle doesn't necessarily mean we need to cancel. I find it adds to the photos and still creates beautiful images.

Absolutely! Dogs are very welcome at my outdoor family sessions. They’re part of the family too, and I love capturing photographs of them alongside you.

You definitely won’t be the first! Most families tell me they feel a little awkward having their photograph taken, which is exactly why I don’t expect you to know how to pose. I’ll give you simple prompts and things to do together, so you can focus on your family rather than the camera. Before you know it, you’ll probably forget I’m even there.
