A beautiful newborn session in Bourne, Lincolnshire

I photographed this lovely family based in Bourne, Lincolnshire for their newborn session as they welcomed their first baby boy (although, as they’ll tell you, he wasn’t technically their first baby! Their beloved fur baby had that title long before his little brother arrived).

It was such a privilege to capture this incredibly special chapter for them and to document those first precious moments as a family of four. Being invited into these moments is something I never take for granted. There’s something so special about being trusted to capture such a fleeting time, and I feel incredibly honoured every time a family chooses me to tell a small part of their story.

As a newborn photographer covering Bourne, Rutland and the surrounding areas, I love creating relaxed, natural photographs that capture not just what your baby looked like, but the connection, cuddles and little moments that make this stage so special.

“Jess was absolutely incredible from start to finish, and I couldn’t recommend her more highly for a newborn shoot.

She was so professional, warm and lovely, and immediately made both me and my partner feel completely at ease. Most importantly, she was amazing with our baby - so gentle, calm and incredibly patient, even when he was fussy. You can tell she really knows what she’s doing, and we felt completely comfortable with her throughout the whole shoot.

Having the session at home was such a brilliant experience. Jess brought everything with her, including all of the beautiful props, so we didn’t have to worry about packing everything up and taking a newborn to a studio. Being in our own home made the whole experience feel so much more relaxed, natural and enjoyable.

She is also incredibly reasonably priced. We originally booked one of her offers, but when we saw the finished gallery we ended up buying every single photo because they were honestly all too beautiful to leave behind!

Jess is incredibly talented and has such a gift for capturing those tiny, natural moments that you’ll want to treasure forever. The photos feel beautiful, intimate and completely timeless - exactly the kind of memories you want to keep forever.

If you’re considering a newborn shoot, I would absolutely recommend having it done at home, and I would wholeheartedly recommend Jess. She is talented, patient, lovely, affordable and worth every penny. We’re so grateful to have these photographs and couldn’t be happier with the whole experience. ❤️”

Every baby is different… and that’s exactly how I like it!

My approach to every newborn session is a little different, because no two babies (or families!) are the same. I always say that babies run the shoot - and they have a funny way of proving me right every single time!

Before your session, I’ll have a loose plan in my head based on my usual flow, your baby’s age and most importantly, what you’re hoping to get from your photographs. If there are particular images that are really important to you, we’ll focus on those first while your little one is settled, and then let the rest of the session naturally unfold from there.

I never want a newborn session to feel rushed or like we’re working against the clock. Babies might need a feed, a cuddle, a nappy change (or two!), or simply a little bit of time to settle… and that’s completely normal. There is no expectation for your baby to sleep through the session or stay settled the whole time.

I’ll always allow plenty of extra time for feeding, changing and settling, so we can work around your baby rather than trying to make them fit around the photoshoot. Sometimes the moments in between the photographs for eg. a yawn, a cuddle, or the way you naturally soothe your baby end up being some of my favourite images from the whole gallery.

My aim is to keep things relaxed, natural and baby-led, while gently guiding you throughout the session so you never feel like you need to know what to do. You can simply enjoy your time with your little one, and I’ll take care of the rest.

Below, I’ve included a few simple things I recommend doing before your newborn session to help everything run as smoothly as possible on the day.
